Tourmaline....A Stone of Balance

Tourmaline is known as a stone of balance.

Tourmaline is found in a greater range of colors than any other gemstone. The most well-known is black. All color combinations imaginable are possible with this gemstone. Throughout history a rainbow of stones were found that were tourmaline. Sometimes it was mistaken for rubies.

Because of stress, energies get bound up or blocked and this stone is believed to remove the affects of the stressful environment that often surrounds us. Tourmaline comes in several different colors and each one has meta-physical properties of its own. I will only explore a few of them.

Tourmaline is said to raise your mind to a higher level than the energies around you. It is also believed to balance the energies of the nervous system and the body.

Black Tourmaline is believed to neutralize bad energies of the mind such as hate, anger, resentment and jealousy: replacing these negative energies with fresh and inspiring energies. It also balances the yin-yang and man-woman energies of your mind. Associated with the Astrological sign of Capricorn.

Pink Tourmaline is associated with the Astrological sign of Libra. It is said to bring joy, peace, trust and understanding and it can be combined with Rhodochrosite for more intensity. Pink tourmaline is the rarest of the colors found in tourmaline even more than the ruby color.  It brings comfort and love energy to heal hurts.

Tourmaline acquires a (unique property) of an electric charge when you rub it or when its heated; attracting dust, ashes and lightweight objects. During WWII tourmaline was in demand for production of pressure sensitive instruments and other equipment because of its electric charge capabilities.

Some other colors are blue, green, red, yellow, dark pink, brown, and tri-colored.

Men's Dark Garnet Beaded Necklace found in "Men's Earthy Collection" contains tourmaline in the design.

Tourmaline is known as a gemstone of poets and artists. Shakespear had a collection of tourmaline jewelry to help him overcome "writers block." Tourmaline was used by artists and writers during the renaissance period through the 1800's as a talisman to inspire creativity.
